The Special Plan for the installation of aerothermal heat pumps at the Nuevos Ministerios Complex proposes a strategic intervention to advance the energy refurbishment of the built heritage of the General State Administration.
The proposal makes it possible to combine the installation of new high-efficiency thermal systems with the architectural, urban and landscape protection of one of Madrid’s most representative administrative complexes. The site is located at the headquarters of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, at Plaza de San Juan de la Cruz 10.
The Plan regulates the installation of external aerothermal equipment and forms part of an energy refurbishment strategy financed through Next Generation EU funds.
The project seeks to progressively replace conventional thermal systems with high-efficiency renewable solutions, contributing to the reduction of non-renewable primary energy consumption. The intervention is located in an ancillary parking area and incorporates criteria of landscape integration, environmental improvement and acoustic control in order to reduce its visual and functional impact on the protected complex.
The proposal demonstrates that the energy transition can be addressed through urban planning as a tool for responsible transformation, capable of upgrading protected buildings and settings without compromising their architectural and heritage values.
