Selected among the COAM members who will participate in the "III Iberoamerican Forum of Cities. QUERETARO 2023"

The proposals submitted by Alexandra Delgado Jiménez, Borja Ruiz-Apilánez Corrochano and Marcos Enrique López Barrera have been selected by the Jury to be exhibited at the III Ibero-American Cities Forum. Querétaro 2023, which will take place from June 28 to 30.

The call to participate in the III Ibero-American Forum of Cities. Querétaro 2023, promoted by the City Foundation in collaboration with COAM, to attend as a guest expert closed on May 12 with a total of 13 proposals received from 10 members.

The jury, composed of the vice dean and member of the COAM Governing Board, Pablo Olalquiaga and Enrique Manzano, respectively; and the president of the Fundación Ciudad, Tomás Vera, and Mara Sánchez, of the Fundación Ciudad and professor at the ETSAM, unanimously selected the following proposals:

- "Urban naturalization master plan for the city of Gijón/Xixón: mitigation and adaptation to climate change through the improvement of urban green infrastructure", submitted by Alexandra Delgado Jiménez.

The jury has highlighted the contributions that this proposal makes from the professional practice, through a Master Plan that organizes municipal policies with objectives in sustainable urban development and improvement of urban quality. It has also valued the clarity and solidity with which it exposes the theme, presenting a work that will enable an opportunity for reflection and transfer to the demands of Mexican and Latin American cities.

- "More walkable and cyclable cities. The recent Spanish experience", a proposal by Borja Ruiz-Apilanez Corrochano.

In this proposal, the jury highlighted the analysis of specific cases in Spain, which support the transfer of its results as a response to the needs of Ibero-American cities in sustainable urban development. It has also taken into account the balance in the professional and teaching experience of the speaker.

- "The use of viceregal royal roads to vertebrate a mobility system in the metropolitan area of Querétaro" and "The municipal declaration of cultural heritage protection polygon as a tool for urban management and financing. The case of San Juan del Río, Querétaro", both presented by Marcos Enrique López Barrera.

The jury has valued that both papers presented focus on the host city, from the experience, analyzing a successful case. It also valued the urgency of the topic addressed with the proposal for the development of an instrument for the management of architectural and urban heritage.


Finally, the jury wanted to highlight with a mention the proposal of José Ramón Sierra y Gómez de León, "Río Somes", for being a case of current intervention and in process where the actions in the infrastructure start from the social, promoting social cohesion between different communities through the natural environment, demands of Mexican and Ibero-American cities.

III Ibero-American Cities Forum. Querétaro 2023

Under the slogan "The postcovid city in the face of climate change" and promoted by the Fundación Ciudad, the Ibero-American Forum of Cities. Querétaro 2023 celebrates its third edition from June 28 to 30.

Its main objectives are based on defining tools for a smart, sustainable and inclusive model of city development by exchanging knowledge among companies, experts, professionals and local governments.

This edition in Mexico is an opportunity to learn first-hand about the demands of Mexican cities in terms of their conceptualization, planning, development and improvement of the different urban services.
